"Probing the origins of the Canis Major Overdensity"
Brian Pohl

Abstract:

A lively debate has sprung up in the literature over the origin of the Canis Major overdensity since its discovery in 2004. The principle combatants being N. F. Martin, arguing that this is evidence of an in-plane galactic accretion scenario, and Y. Momany who insists this is due to the galactic warp structure. Although much work is being done by several people on this topic, this talk will concentrate on the debate itself and its current status.
