Introduction

In Biological Physics the experimental and theoretical methods of physics are applied to problems in biology. The problems studied in biological physics are extremely diverse and cover length and time scales ranging from femto seconds and nanometers for molecular reactions to decades for the human body to reach maturity. Our research efforts are part of a campus wide initiative that includes the Departments of Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry & Biophysics, Cell & Developmental Biology, Chemistry, Cell & Molecular Physiology, Microbiology & Immunology, Computer Science, the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products, the Program in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and the Program in Molecular and Cellular Biophysics.
