Mine Safety Training:

In order to work underground at Kimballton, you must be a certified miner. In order to get certified, you must take a 40 hour class, required under 30 CFR part 48, that is only offered as needed. This 40 hour class also includes First Aid training and the 16 hours of supervision by a certified miner.

It is also possible, under the right circumstances, to attend a 24 hour mine safety training course and get the first aid certification on your own. However, you still need the 16 hours of observation by a certified miner. To arrange for this class, you need to contact Bonnie Davis. This course is only offered as needed as well, so it is better if you have a large group of people who need certification.

Now, if you are fully certified then all you need is the annual 8 hour refresher course. The 8 hour annual refresher course is offered once a year for the surface employees. You should plan to group in with this class when the time comes around for your 8 hr course. This course is tentatively planned for two days in April, 2008 (more info to come). The mine's normal refresher training schedule requires attending a one hour class every month at the mine, which would be too difficult to try to attend.

Again, in order to get the 40 hour certification, you need to contact Bonnie Davis about arranging a session - contact information is below. Also, there are other ways to get certified, see for example THIS SITE. On your first arrival at Kimballton, you will also have to go through site specific training which doesn't take too long.

First Aid Training:

Online first aid training is available at this site CLICK HERE.

What you need to enter the mine:

Provided you are a certified miner, on arrival at Kimballton, you must present them with your Chemical Lime miner certification card and your First Aid certification card. This is a MUST.

Also, proper notification (at least 3 days) of your arrival is needed so they know you are coming. You should contact Mark Luxbacher by phone or email - contact information is below. You should also let Bruce Vogelaar know that you will be coming.

The DSL modem light that is labeled "DSL" should be solid if there is a signal (it can be hard to see). It blinks if there is no signal. If you plug your computer directly into the modem, you can log into it using the IP address http://192.168.0.254. This will also tell you if the DSL signal is there.
