HOMEMADE STRINGED INSTRUMENTS

SPRING 2005

Ben plays his Twice-a-Day Viola, which is strung with dental floss.

Patrick shows his Patrickspiel, which has bridges made of bandage boxes.

Phillip’s Bassulele has a flexible neck that can be used to change the pitch.

Sam made two similar instruments:  the bass Roy (named after his favorite coach) and the treble WissickNeil, also known as the Suckupophone.  The amplitude of the sound is increased by placing the instrument on a wooden resonator.

Shannon plays the Stringed Fina, which is made from an Aquafina water bottle.  The strings are rubber bands.

Stephen’s Hammered Fretless Canjo is played like a hammered dulcimer.

Veronica’s Hookahphone is strung with conventional guitar strings and consists of two loosely-coupled parts.
